In my reading today, I came across a quote that really spoke to me and stood out. In The Friendship War, Grace is describing how she loves to collect various items. She describes them as being different parts of who she is as a person. She picks up things from antique shops, garage sales, and flea markets and keeps them in her bedroom. The quote that stood out to me was on page 20 when Grace thought to herself, "Me? I like to keep things. And my room? It's like a museum of my life so far." This quote spoke to me because I feel like we all have special items in our lives that make up a museum of who we are and where we have been.
I can connect with Grace because the "museum" in my life is the plants I have collected from people I love and care about. In my garden, I have flowers that belonged to my great grandfather and they come back every year to remind me of him. My Mom gave me daisies from her house that I love to look at each summer. Recently, my Poppy gave me seeds to this beautiful purple flower from Maine and I can't wait to plant them. Grace likes to collect little items and I love to collect plants! I can't wait to see what other connections I can make with her!
