Happy Readers... :-)

What part of your book makes you the happiest?
Why do you think it makes you the happiest?

In my book The Friendship Wars, it makes me happiest when Grace thinks about her grandfather. I think this makes me the happiest because it reminds me of my own family who also make me smile and laugh!

Language Arts Game

Hi, readers!!

I just wanted to share a fun word scramble game with you, so you could play!

I had to enable my Adobe Flash to make it work. I love a good puzzle, so let me know what you think in the comments!

Never-Ending Summer

If you got to experience a summer that NEVER ended, what would you do?

If summer never ended, I would swim all morning and then read a mystery book. After that, I would make a burger on the grill (I love that smell!) and end the night with some fun fireworks!

Summer Travels

I've been reading a lot of different books this summer and they all have different settings! In my books I have traveled to the beach, Texas, high school, and a college campus! So far, my favorite setting is the beach. Hopefully, I can go there this summer!

Character Connections

In my reading today, I came across a quote that really spoke to me and stood out. In The Friendship War, Grace is describing how she loves to collect various items. She describes them as being different parts of who she is as a person. She picks up things from antique shops, garage sales, and flea markets and keeps them in her bedroom. The quote that stood out to me was on page 20 when Grace thought to herself, "Me? I like to keep things. And my room? It's like a museum of my life so far." This quote spoke to me because I feel like we all have special items in our lives that make up a museum of who we are and where we have been.

I can connect with Grace because the "museum" in my life is the plants I have collected from people I love and care about. In my garden, I have flowers that belonged to my great grandfather and they come back every year to remind me of him. My Mom gave me daisies from her house that I love to look at each summer. Recently, my Poppy gave me seeds to this beautiful purple flower from Maine and I can't wait to plant them. Grace likes to collect little items and I love to collect plants! I can't wait to see what other connections I can make with her!

Do you have a "museum" in your own life of items you collect? Comment below and be sure to add your name to the comment! Also, feel free to comment on multiple blog posts. We'd love to hear from you! -Mrs. Hudowalski and Miss Bogaert

Surprise!!

Image result for surprise clip art

What has surprised you the most while reading your book? Why did it surprise you?!
OR
What has been your favorite moment so far? Why?

I've just started The Friendship War by Andrew Clements. I find it surprising that Grace seems so conflicted about who she is and who she wants to be. She is a very complicated character and I can't wait to read more about her!!

Admiring Characters

Sometimes when I'm reading, I like to imagine my characters as people I know in my own life. When I do that type of thinking, I often have a character that I look up to and hope to be like in my own life.

When I think about Isle of the Lost, I admire Mal for the growth she has made as a character. She is starting to become a better person and making choices that are positive. I look up to and admire this type of behavior because she came from a place where she thought she always had to be bad. At the beginning of the story, she had some evil intentions, but now I'm starting to think that she just grew up in a home where that was acceptable. Now that she is making her own choices, she is realizing that being good is the better option.

What do you admire most about a character in your book? Why do you look up to them or hope to be like them?
